LO3 Sheffield Live Radio Station Schedule (Part of the Consideration of Gap in Market)

Mine (Joseph) and Stephen audio media product would best fit in Sheffield Live schedule on the radio show called Communities live which is on between 12 to 1 O'clock Monday through to Friday However because our audio media product is a podcast we would not need to be placed in the schedule for uploading/recording/distributing, all we would do is advertise our podcast on the Communities Live radio show as the Communities Live radio show is their to help/suggest other products like our audio media product to their audience to help that product grow.

LO3 Snippet of the audio media product 'Anime Half Hour' and the Sample Script

The resources that would be needed to create and produce a snippet of mine (Joseph) and Stephens’s audio product for unit 19 ‘Anime Half Hour’ would be a computer and 2-voice recorders. The voice recorders to record it and the computer to upload and edit the snippet of our audio media product.

Stephen:
Alright so basically Joe, this week I watched episode 450, 450 episodes i'v watched of One Piece and I have to say and I have to say it's probably been my favorite episode so far.

Joe:
Why is that?

Stephen:
Well it's probably because they have actually started escaping from the prison.

LO2 Lesson Review and LO3 Lesson Objectives

Lesson Review
In this lesson I came up with 3 original audio media products that I would want to produce.

I then narrowed it down too 2 audio media products that I would want to produce.
I also created the required mood boards/mind maps as well as extras to explain certain parts of the initial ideas and chosen ideas. I also looked at what Ofcom is and what they do.

Objectives
My objectives for next lesson is to ensure I have the presentation and the treatment ready for my first trial pitch. Initial idea 3 Weird and Unusal Noises + Music. Another milestone I have set myself is to make sure that I complete the two treatments that are needed for my chosen ideas/developed ideas with future development ideas.

LO2 Ofcom

Ofcom are an independent regulator for UK communicates such as television, radio, telecoms and the use of spectrums etc.

Ofcom influence the media by stopping you from receiving spam i.e. scams/scammer. They protect people from harmful and offensive materials and they protect people from being discriminated against.

LO1 Analysis of audio media products (Finished)

Analysis of audio media products-

By Joseph Treacy

Introduction-
The subject of my report will be my five audio media products I analysed. The five audio products I analysed and will be using in my report are; audio product one Cbeebies, audio product two ATL's Irish music, audio product three Alternative music, audio product 4 world news and audio product five Irish music.
The information  I will be using to write this report is both primary and secondary research, the aspects I will be reviewing is Purpose, Form and style, Content , Meaning, Genre ,Target audience, Frequency and production process.
Report-(Research gathered)

          Purpose
The purpose of my five chosen audio product have differences and similarities for example they all have a common goal to entertain their viewer as this means they will have a loyal audience and therefore good rating or at least a good average rating however they also have other goal like so; audio product one is to entertain children and engage them in thought, whereas audio product 4 which is also an educational program purpose is to inform its viewer on news from around the world and then there is audio product 2,3 and 5 which are all again to entertain but audio product 2 and 3's purpose is to entertain through music and audio product 5 is to entertain through comedy.
         Form and style
In this part of my report I will be discussing the form and style of my five chosen audio products, Starting with the first audio product (Cbeebies)  which takes the form of a podcast and the style is conversational and Informal. The second audio product (ATL's Irish music) I picked took the form and style of a podcast which was again informal and conversational. The third audio product I chose to analysis used the form and style of a podcast and the style of again informal conversation. The fourth audio product (World news) I picked applies the form and style podcast and the style is formal and employed the fifth audio product I analysed used the form of a podcast and the style of Informal conversation (argumentative).
         Content
In this section I will be going over my analysis of the content that is provided by the five audio products chosen, Starting with audio product 1 (Cbeebies) which provides games like sing-a-longs, things that would entertain kids this content is specifically produced for a young audience, at a pace and in such a style that suits them i.e. using a range of formats including live-action and animation. The second audio products (Irish music) content is music and entertainment (conversational); the third audio product (alternative music) contains specific music such as Indie/Rock/Drum 'n' Bass and the artists on the show. The fourth audio product (world news) provides content on world news and solutions (Information world news). The fifth and final audio product (Irish comedy) delivers comedy and fun to the listener.
          Meaning
In this segment of my report I will be discussing the meaning of the five audio products. The first audio products(Cbeebies) meaning (The reason for it) is to engage and influence the listener in thought as it's a child's program and its meant to educate the viewer. The second audio product’s (ATL's Irish music) meaning is to inform and therefore influence/engage the viewer in music to get you to like a certain song or genre. The third audio product (alternative music) meaning is to engage the viewer to influence them in to a genre of music or song/band. The fourth audio product 'world news' meaning is to both influence and engage the viewer in thought and therefore engage you to make a decision on the issues at hand. The final audio product 'Irish comedy's' meaning is to engage and make the listener laugh.
          Genre
The genre of my five media products I choose vary as they're designed to suit a specific group of people, For example my first media product (Cbeebies) genre is drama, comedy, entertainment and factual content. The second media products (ATL's Irish music) genre is in the music sector of rock, indie new and experimental. The third audio product (alternative music) genre is indie rock, alternative hip-hop and drum 'n' bass. The fourth audio products (world news) genre is educational and factual, the last audio product, audio products 5 (Irish comedy) genre is well comedy.
          Target audience
In this section I will be going over and comparing my analysis of the target audience for my five chosen audio products. The first audio product I will be going over is audio product one (Cbeebies) the audience they aim at is young children as they watch it from as young as 1. The second audio products (ATL’s Irish Music) target audience is the Irish and teenagers/young adults. The third audio products (alternative music) target audience varies as it has a variety of different music such as indie rock, alternative, hip-hop and drum n’ bass. Therefore it has a large target audience such as lovers of indie rock, drum ‘n’ bass, hip-hop and alternative as well people who like to experiment with different genres of music. The fourth audio product (world news) has a niche target audience as not many people watch it the only target audience it will probably have is people that work (office jobs). The final audio product (Irish comedy) I analysed tells us that the target audience is the Irish community as it’s an Irish based comedy and for people that generally like to have a laugh.
           Frequency
This section is dedicated to the frequency of each of my five products the first audio product (Cbeebies) is updated daily this is significant because it means the source is reliable and successful and therefore trustworthy, This is also the same for my second audio product (ATL’s Irish music) as it is updated at a specific time twice a week (8pm-10pm on Wednesdays and Fridays). The third audio product I analysed is updated weekly and therefore you know the source of the product is trustworthy and reliable, and again with my audio product 4 (world news) because it is updated daily at 7am you already know it’s reliable and trustworthy. The fifth and final audio product (Irish comedy) is available every Monday at 7:30pm this is significant because it means it’s reliable as it’s on regularly.

          Production process
The final section of my report is on the production process of my five chosen audio files. All of my audio files one through five are all produced relatively in the same process; Record Upload and then distribute.(Pre-production, production and then post- production)
           Comparisons
The difference between these five products in some aspects is closer to none because they’re all there to entertain the viewer and try to get the largest amount of views, however the products do this differently  i.e. they are equipped differently, for example audio product one ‘Cbeebies’ is specialized in entertaining and influencing kids to educate them while entertain them. Whereas audio product 4 ‘world news’ is also there to educate and influence but they perform this job differently as they’re not trying to educate kids they do it by just reading out facts and having debates. The same goes for audio product 2, 3 and 5 they’re also here to entertain the viewer but these are not based around educational facts or activities like audio product 1 and 5. These audio products entertain through music and comedy. Audio product 2 ‘ATL’s Irish Music’ is again there to influence and engage the viewer in thought on new types of music and genres, specifically Irish music and bands therefore entertaining the viewer. This again is much like audio product 3 ‘alternative music’ which is here to entertain and influence you to like or enjoy new types of music however this products purpose is not to promote Irish based bands/singers but to promote all kinds which again means a larger audience therefore more viewers and better ratings. The final audio product ‘Irish music’ is solely to entertain using comedy however its purpose is to entertain the Irish community as its Irish comedy this means that it’s aimed at entertaining a specific group of people(therefore target audience is smaller). This is different to the other audio products I used as they have more purposes other than just to entertain, (This means that audio product 5 has a niche target audience and lower rating), Overall all audio products/audio visual products have a purpose in common to entertain the viewer to keep them interested however they all have hidden aspects of themselves whether it is fun educational activities like Cbeebies of more factual based like world news or even through music and comedy.

In this section I will be discussing the similarities and differences the five audio products have when it comes to form and style, for example the similarities are that all the audio product share is that they are all podcasts however only audio product 1, 2, 3 and 5 use the style of informal conversation whereas audio product 4 uses formal conversation as it factual based (educational). This therefore mean that audio product 1,2,3 and 5 have went for a more popular way of presenting their audio product as it keep the viewer interested. Whereas audio product 4 has went for the more predictable method and strict narrative which can get boring as there’s no improvising. This therefore mean audio product 12, 3 and 5 may have a greater potential of higher rating. Overall I think all audio products have both similarities and difference whether it be how it’s presented or how the product is performed but this may vary as the genre and target audience of the product varies like so audio product 4 is world news and therefore formal whereas audio product 1 (Cbeebies) which is still an educational program has in informal based product as it’s aimed at children and need to keep them engaged and entertained (Therefore a reason to use informal language as they have more leniency with what they say).

The content within the products is the one that varies the most as all products are aimed at different audiences and therefore means different genres, different age ranges and most importantly different content. For example audio product one ‘Cbeebies’ content is childish games and sing-along as it’s aimed at a young audience and therefore the genre is animation to keep them entertained (colour) and educational content i.e. games and sing-along to make learning fun ,entertainment and drama as this keeps them engaged. The meaning of this audio product is to engage and influence as it an educational product. And now if you compare it to audio product 4 ‘world news’ which is again meant to educate and therefore influence the audience but this product doesn't use games or animation to keep the viewer’s engaged it just uses factual content to educate the viewers which therefore implies the viewers are considerably older with the probability of them working office hours (9-5). The meaning of this product is again to engage you in thought and influence you on factual and educational content as it provides information on world news (problems). And again with audio product 2 and 3 as the content used in the product is musical but the genre used varies for example audio product 2 uses (Irish) rock, indie, new and alternative this then affects the age range as rock and indie might be too aggressive or rude for younger viewers however its content always stays the same in some aspects as it and Irish music channel they will continually play Irish music. This again is the same for Audio product 3’s content for example the genre is Indie rock, alternative. Hip-hop and drum ‘n’ bass this again changes the target audience as some songs in the genre indie by be rude whereas hip-hop tends to be happy upbeat music and therefore changes the age range that people will watch it from this therefore changes the content the product uses.

The frequency of all five of the product vary this means that some will be more reliable than other for example audio product 1 and 4 is updated daily at 7am and this therefore mean this product is extremely reliable which means it’s a successful product and therefore won’t be going anywhere(cancelled/replaced), whereas audio product 5 is only updated on a Monday at 7:30 am this again means its reliable as it has a timetable of when they upload but it’s not as reliable as audio product 1 and 4 however to be able to upload weekly still that it has reasonable rating . This is the same for audio product 3 as it’s only updated weekly this again means that it reliable but not as reliable as audio product 1 and 4 and therefore may be seen. The second audio product is also dependable as it is updated every week on a Wednesday and Friday at 8pm to 10pm and therefore dependable and trustworthy as this shows success which means it won’t be cancelled as its rating are up.

Conclusion/summary
Overall I think that all product have a common goal in every aspect whether it is the purpose to the target audience, they all have something in common, However some perform this better for example Audio product 1 and 4 was the best in every aspect of the reviewed features as they were more reliable (dependable) their purpose was clearer and more well-handled, or having the content relate to the genre audience and age of the viewer that watch/listen to their product.

LO1 Analysis of Music-Show-Radio

ATL’s Irish Music

Music Podcast-

The purpose of this audio media product is to entertain the listener like all media products created, as by doing this, it gains the audience’s attention which therefore helps their 'real goal' which is to inform and educate them on the new Irish bands and singers.

The form and style in which the audio media product 'ATL's Irish Music' is presented as is an informal, conversational audio product, the form in which the audio media product is presented as is an audio file (podcast) available for streaming or downloading.

The audio media product 'ATL's Irish Music' consists of Irish artists i.e. the artists songs and albums playing throughout with a bit of 'banter' and joking around involved, helping promote the musicians.

The meaning behind the audio media product 'ATL Irish Music' was to both influence and engage the audience in thought and entertain as by influencing and engaging them you are getting their attention and making them think about the artists and their songs bringing not only the artists recognition but the audio media product (podcast) too.

The genre of the audio media product 'ATL Irish Music.' is well Irish Music whatever the actual genre of the Irish Music is, however they said they preferred the genres of Indie and rock.

The target audience of this audio media product is everyone as that would give the artists the biggest chance to increase their popularity and recognition however the targeted audience is the Irish community as it’s an Irish themed podcast which means the Irish community would want to support them more as they are promoting Irish artists

The production process of this audio media product is like that of all audio media products: pre-production, production and post-production. Pre-production involves the planning and scripting of the audio media product. However there are a few things that happen before the pre-production stage such as figuring out the financial cost of everything and making sure you have the funds. Then there the production stage in which it would have been recorded and edited to make sure any hick-up and imperfections are cut out and are not present in the finished version. Then there is the post-production stage which consists of advertising and promoting the finalised product and the distribution of said product.

LO1 Analysis of Radio Drama

The Archers

Radio Drama-

This audio media product is a radio drama on BBC Radio 4

The main purpose of this audio media product is to entertain the listener like all media products created, and by doing this, it gains the audience’s attention which therefore helps their 'hidden agenda' which is to inform and educate them on the radio station BBC Radio 4 and the company BBC i.e. to promote and advertise the BBC company and its programs.

The form and style in which the audio media product 'The Archers' is presented is both formal and informal, conversational and argumentative as there are several scenes in which there are different characters talking using formal language and arguing using informal language, the form in which The Archers is presented as is as a series of podcasts available on BBC Radio 4.

The audio media product consists of a series of events between a community, known as The Archers; the events consist of things such as family/relationship issues between The Archer cast and basically everything that you would expect from a stereotypical country life (rural life).

The meaning behind the audio media product The Archers'' was to both influence and engage the audience in thought as by influencing and engaging them you are getting their attention and making them think about either that program or even what issues the program/episode raised which means they are much more likely to remember or recognize the company/program and are more likely to promote and advertise the program and the company BBC themselves by word of mouth (Talking about it to their friends and family) which overall means free promotion in the long run.

The genre of this audio media product 'The Archers' in a broader sense is educational as it informs you on certain things and events on people life's/livelihood and their situations, the most obvious genre that 'The Archers' fall under is drama and entertainment.

The target audience of the audio media product 'The Archer' would be the lover of drama and soap operas as this allows The Archers the biggest chance to increase their popularity and recognition even more, However the intended target audience is much harder to pin point as some people may have grown up with their parent or grandparents listening to it and might be fans themselves but the most likely target audience is the elderly as this would be more appealing to them.

LO1 Lesson Review/Objectives

Lesson Review
In this lesson I managed to complete two of the four required analysis's on the audio media products radio advert, radio jingle, radio drama and radio music show. Out of these I managed to complete the radio advert and the radio jingle.

Objectives In the next lesson I will make sure to complete the remaining two.

Wednesday, 17 September 2014

LO1 Analysis of a Radio Jingle

Radio Jingle for Spirit of the Wapentake

Radio Jingle -

The purpose of this audio media product is to entertain the listener like all media products created, as by doing this, it gains the audience’s attention which therefore helps their 'real goal' which is to inform, educate and bring recognition to the radio show 'Spirit of the Wapentake' i.e. to promote and advertise the radio station. The jingle does this by making a metal impression on your brain of the jingle and what it’s representing in this case it’s the radio show 'Spirit of the Wapentake' itself. So if you hear the Spirit of the Wapentake radio jingle you will know exactly where the jingle comes from and what its representing.

The form and style in which Spirit of the Wapentake’s radio jingle is presented is as a kind of joking around stereotypical rock jingle as it says " Grab your knob and crank it up" which is the stereotype for rock ('LOUD') but overall the audio media product is again presented as an informal, conversational audio product (Jingle) meant to represent both the radio station and the genre rock.

The Spirit of the Wapentake radio jingle has everything that is required of a jingle made for a rock station as it sticks to the stereotype of the rock genre i.e. 'LOUD' and having a laugh, being mischievous while promoting the radio station.

The meaning behind the Spirit of the Wapentake radio jingle was to both influence, engage and entertain the audience whether it’s in thought or fun as by influencing, engaging and entertaining them you are getting their attention and making them think about the radio station which means they are much more likely to remember and recognize the radio station when they hear the jingle and by doing that they are acknowledging the radio station and more likely to promote and advertise the station themselves by word of mouth (Talking about it to their friends and family) which overall means free promotion in the long run.

The genre of Spirit of the Wapentake's radio jingle is entertainment as if it didn't do or attempt too entertain you it wouldn't be very successful as a jingle for a music-station or a radio station in general,

The intended target audience of Spirit of the Wapentake's radio jingle is well everyone but mostly people or fans of the genre rock as by producing a jingle that can entertain a large group of people you create the biggest chance to increase the popularity and recognition that the radio station 'Spirit of the Wapentake' has.

The production process of this audio media product is like that of all audio media products: pre-production, production and post-production. Pre-production involves the planning and scripting of the audio media product. However there are a few things that happen before the pre-production stage such as figuring out the financial cost of everything and making sure you have the funds. Then there the production stage in which it would have been recorded and edited to make sure any hick-ups and imperfections are cut out and are not present in the finished version. Then there is the post-production stage which consists of the distribution of said product which for the jingle would just be to implement it into the show.

LO1 Analysis of a Radio Advert

Capital FM Advert, September (2014)

Radio/Television Advertisement-

This audio media product is a radio/television advertisement for Capital FM used to promote them which would bring them more listeners/larger audiences therefore keeping them as the Number 1 UK Hit Music Station.

The purpose of this audio media product is to entertain the listener or viewer like all media products created, as by doing this, it gains the audience’s attention which therefore helps their 'real goal' which is to inform and educate them on the company Capital FM i.e. to promote and advertise the company.

The form and style in which the Capital FM advertisement is presented as is an informal, conversational audio product, the form in which the audio media product is presented as is a audio promo (audio/radio advertisement).

The audio media product 'Capital FM Advert, September (2014) consists of all the well-known artists such as Rita Ora, Miley Cyrus, Will Pharrell, Jessie J etc. having fun while promoting the company Capital FM.

The meaning behind the audio media product 'Capital FM Advertisement' from September 2014 was to both influence and engage the audience in thought as by influencing and engaging them you are getting their attention and making them think about the company Capital FM which means they are much more likely to remember it or recognize say the company logo and by doing that they are acknowledging the company and more likely to promote and advertise the company themselves by word of mouth (Talking about it to their friends and family) which overall means free promotion in the long run.

The genre of this audio media product 'Capital FM' advertisement from September 2014 in a broader sense is educational as its inform you on certain things i.e. the company Capital FM but mostly the advertisement would lean towards the music category of genre as that is what the company is a radio station for music (Hip-Hop and Pop).

The target audience of this audio media product is everyone as that would give Capital FM the biggest chance to increase their popularity and recognition however the most likely intended target audience is young adults aged 19-24, teenagers- aged 14-18 and kids aged 6-13.

LO1 Lesson Review/Objectives

Lesson Review
In today's lesson I completed all the tasks needed before I could move on to gathering notes on my audio media products I decided to analyse to complete my report for LO1.

Objectives
In the next lesson I will make sure to complete at least one of the four required analysis's of audio products.

LO1 An example of a radio show in my chosen 5 audio media products that may be censored.

For example Cbeebies wouldn't allow anything rude, inappropriate, racist, stereo typically based or discriminating. As it a child program and inappropriate to show anything other than games and educational information.

For the second example I would use world news as it is basically the same as they would not be permitted to show content if it used in a manner to target a group or person, however they would have more 'leeway' to use certain content as the show is only supposed to be viewed by a certain age grouping (adults or teenagers, not children like Cbeebies) which therefore mean they may be allowed to use videos of hate discriminate and racism to show or educate people.

LO1 Legal and Ethical (Censorship)

Censorship

The word used for when a media based company is forbidden from showing, saying or doing a certain thing is called censorship or if they do this to themselves it called self-censorship however they mean the same thing its where they suppress a certain type of content whether it be abusive, rude, racist, discriminating or a stereotype.

LO1 Factors that will affects the quality of production

Things that will affect your quality of production is motivation, enthusiasm, ability to plan (planning), money, equipment.

LO1 Starter Task- Learning How to Use the Voice Recorder for Future Recording in Lessons

Today I interviewed the general public by asking them a variety of open questions to get an opinion from each of them on different topics, such as their opinions on Ched Evans and what they think should happen with his football career, and their favourite TV programme and their favourite football team
